The New iPad: Is It Really That Good

Prior to its release, the third generation of Apple's popular tablet brand has been a subject of a lot of rumors. This is something you can expect from a device whose predecessors have tasted a lot of success during their time. The company completely went away from the numbering system as the new iPad is simply called as The New iPad. What does this new tablet has in store for us?
At first glance, the new iPad looks exactly like the iPad 2. The home button is still there, the length and width remained the same and the screen size stayed at 9.7 inches. You will never notice that this new device is slightly thicker than the previous one unless you measure it. It is also slightly heavier than the iPad 2.

You will differentiate the 3rd generation Apple tablet immediately once you turn on the device. That 9.7 inch screen is now using retina display, same as the one found on the iPhone 4S. The display packs a resolution of 2048 by 1536 pixels -- the most for any mobile device. The screen resolution is one thing and the enhanced color is another. The combination of these two makes everything look good when viewed on the new iPad.
A new processor is found on the new tablet. The Apple A5x is said to be four times better than NVIDIA's quad-core processor, the Tegra 3. Together with it is an unnamed quad-core Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) that is more than capable of handling the outstanding resolution of the new iPad.
As web content is getting more and more dynamic and complex, there is a need for a faster internet connection. Apple does just that as the New iPad now supports 4G LTE connectivity. This means user can now enjoy a maximum speed of 73 MB/s. The great thing about it is that the 4G LTE connection is not limited to Verizon and AT&T customers. The New iPad will still have blazing web browsing speeds outside US territory.
The camera has also been improved. While the iPad 2 was criticized for its 0.7 MP shooter, the 3rd generation tablet now has a 5 MP camera. While this may not be at the level of the iPhone 4S (which has an 8 MP camera), this is a huge addition. The camera app on the iPhone 4S as well as an improved "iPhoto" is also included to enhance the experience.
The new iPad is what people have expected it to be. Apple has created another product that will be included in most people's wish list. But while the new iPad is clearly better than its predecessor, its base price remains the same. It would be foolish to choose a 16 GB iPad 2 at $499 over a 16 GB New iPad at also $499.
